A three-year-old boy who was reported missing by his family on Wednesday was found dead on Friday, under mysterious circumstances in his own apartment in south Delhi’s RK Puram, police said.

“On Friday at 7.30 am, his aunt discovered his body while she was sweeping the floor. A PCR call was made and after we reached the spot, we found the body,” said a police officer.
Police said Jatin went missing on Wednesday evening after he went outside to play in Ekta Vihar area of RK Puram.

A missing complaint was registered with RK Puram police station on Wednesday.

“We sent one police vehicle along with the family members and searched empty plots, a gurdwara and nearby jhuggis. Even after some people recognised the boy by the picture and claimed to have seen him in the vicinity, we were not able to find him,” said the officer.
“We also printed posters of the missing boy and circulated it,” said police.

The family members said there were some injury marks on the body.

“Since everyone was busy searching Ankit, no one slept in the room that night. Behind a big water container, we saw a hand and then we discovered his body. There were injury marks on his neck and possibly use of some blunt force as there is a mark on his head,” said Pinki, his cousin sister.

Police, however, denied any injury mark.

“The body was found in decomposed state which may have given the appearance of injury marks. But we are investigating all possible angles and not ruling out the possibility of the involvement of someone known.”

However, police also said it is also possible that he fell upside down behind the water container and became unconscious. “Nobody searched for him at home as everyone was busy searching for him outside,” added the officer.
