A mega blood donation camp will be organised at Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) Blood Bank at Lady Goschen Hospital on September 25.

Samruddha Jeevan Foundation (SJF) – in association with the Dakshina Kannada unit of the Indian Red Cross Society and Media Alumni Association of Mangalagangothri – will organise the camp, which will go on from 8 am on the scheduled date.

According to a press release, the Foundation will organise a mega blood donation camp at 400 locations in 17 states on September 26, to commemorate the birthday of SJF founder Dr Mahesh Motewar. The camp, however, is being organised a day earlier in Karnataka, in view of the proposed bandh on Saturday.

Also, in Karnataka, the camp will be organised in 52 locations, including Mangaluru and Udupi.

Donors
In Mangaluru, the SJF is planning to collect 400 units of blood on a single day on Friday. “We expect about 500 donors in the City, from whom we are confident of collecting a minimum of 400 units,” said Samruddha Jeevan Multi-purpose Cooperative Society senior zonal officers Shravan Kumar and Rajesh Desodi.

In Udupi, the camp will be organised on the premises of the Rajangana at the Krishna Mutt.

The IRCS has tied up with Tejaswini Hospital to organise the camp. The SJF has conducted blood donation camps at 262 blood donation camps in 18 states in 2010, and collected 27,730 units of blood, which landed it in the India Book of Records. In 2014, it collected more than three lakh units of blood, by conducting donation camps at 350 centres in 21 states, according to a press release.
