Captain cool Mahendra Dhoni said he was all for aggression but stressed it should not come to situation where a player has to be suspended.

.
Under Test captain Virat Kolhi, team has faced flak for over-aggression. Speedster Ishant Sharma was handed a one-match ban following his on-field altercation with batsman Dinesh Chandimal in the third Test against Sri Lanka.

“Rahul Dravid had once said that aggression is a good forward defence to a very fast bowler. That is called aggressive play. Our guys are also learning to manage their aggression and channelise them.

“It is good to be aggressive but at the same time you have to follow the guidelines and make sure that all players are available. There shouldn’t be a case where all players have a disciplinary action against them,” Dhoni told reporters on eve of the first T20 match against South Africa.

The India captain said the team was well prepared for the series. “We were in Bengaluru for a few days with a fitness camp followed by three days of skill specific net sessions before the start of the series. You can put in a lot of effort, work on the basics and work on specifics. Everyone is fit which is a good sign,” he said.

Despite gaining a reputation as a specialist finisher, Dhoni has been clear in his desire to bat up the order. He had batted at No 4 in the ODIs in Bangladesh but it may not happen in the T20s.

“I would love to bat at the top order but we have to see the composition of the side and who is best suited to bat at what position. If you see our T20 side, most of our players are top order batsmen when it comes to them playing in the IPL,” he said.

“For example Rohit Sharma opens the batting for India, Ajinkya Rahane was batting in the middle order but opens in the IPL. A lot of these things are there and we have to see which individual is best at what position and depending on that I will decide on what position I have to bat. Most of our batsmen love to bat at the top of the order, but somebody has to bat in the middle and late middle order so that they can get that many deliveries and can be more expressive.”

Dhoni admitted the dew could make toss vital. “There is a bit of pace and bounce here. It is high altitude and the air here is thin. You can compare this venue to Johannesburg. When you hit the ball, it travels much faster and has a bit of bounce.

“If there is a lot of dew then the toss could be vital. But since the game is starting in the evening at 7 and you are going to start getting dew, then it could be possible that the dew effect will be the same during both the innings.”
