TN parties slam UNHRC resolution on Sri Lanka

Last Updated 02 October 2015, 19:43 IST

Expressing regret over India’s support the US sponsored resolution in the UNHRC meet at Geneva, political parties in Tamil Nadu including the ruling AIADMK and opposition DMK have asked the Centre to take positive stand towards Tamils in Sri Lanka.

The UNHRC had passed a resolution on Thursday calling upon Colombo to establish a credible judicial process, with the participation of Commonwealth and other foreign judges, defence lawyers and authorised prosecutors and investigators, to go into the alleged rights abuses.

Terming as disappointment the UNHRC resolution on Sri Lanka, AIADMK General Secretary and Chief Minister J Jayalalitha said it proves that New Delhi has not acted on Tamil Nadu Assembly resolution seeking its role to push for an international probe into the alleged war crimes.

DMK president M Karunanidhi  said that the stand adopted by India showed that it never bothered about the resolution adopted in the Tamil Nadu Assembly demanding an independent international probe to go into the war crimes and the human rights violations committed by Sri Lanka during the final phase of the war in 2009.
