Cops, youths rewarded

On Tuesday, City Police Commissioner Shankar Bidari gave away cash prizes to the tune of nearly Rs 1.4 lakh to various divisions who did their best to solve incidents of crime.

In all, around five kg of gold, 82 theft cases, four robberies, 13 burglaries, 25 chain-snatching incidents, 74 two-wheelers, 26 four-wheelers and other cases stand solved. In connection with these cases, 122 persons have been arrested.

Meanwhile, it was a day to remember for two youths - Satish Kumar and N David who were instrumental in capturing a man who was attempting to escape after stealing a bag containing Rs 40,000 in cash. Bidari rewarded the youths with Rs 5,000 each and an appreciation letter.

Recounting the episode, Satish Kumar told Deccan Herald that he and David had stopped their bike on the roadside, when they saw a man open the glove box of a scooter which was parked nearby and take out a cover and walk away. The owner returned and raised an alarm.

“Immediately, we chased the thief who was riding pillion on a bike and managed to catch him near Frazer Town. In the melee, the rider managed to escape,” he said. The owner of the bag, Muniratham Singh, a sweet shop owner thanked Satish and David. The bag-snaffler has been identified as Gopi (24) of Tamil Nadu.
