19-year-old arrested for making 12-year-old UK's youngest mom

A 19-year-old man was arrested in Ireland after a 12-year-old girl had sex with him and allegedly became pregnant.

Though the man has been granted bail for now, inquiries and medical checks are being carried out in the case.

If the girl carries to full-term, then she would become one of Britain's youngest mothers, reports the DailyMail.

It is a criminal offense to engage in sex with a child under 13 years of age in Ireland.  If the man is found guilty, he will be facing a charge of statutory rape.

The number of teenage girls becoming pregnant in UK has been steadily decreasing in recent years.
