On top of the world

On top of the world
It was a misty Friday morning. With a cup of hot coffee in hand and a house full of relatives, I wanted to do something different during the long weekend that awaited us. After some discussion, we all decided to go on a trip to Mullayanagiri, Chikkamagaluru. We quickly stuffed our bags with few clothes and eatables and started our journey at 10 in the morning. We drove to Nelamangala from where we went towards Hassan and Mangaluru Road. From Hassan, the roads were like a dream and the traffic was minimal.

After a long and exhausting drive, we reached Chikkamagaluru at 6.30 in the evening. As it was the wedding season, it was difficult for us to find an accommodation. After an hour’s search, we finally we found one. We quickly freshened up and wandered the streets of the city in search of a restaurant. The board ‘Eats of Arab’ caught our attention and we enjoyed digging into the ‘biryani’, kebabs and chicken roast that were colourfully spread on our tables. The next morning, we drove to Mullayanagiri and the road towards the destination was simply mesmerising. One of the most scenic places in Karnataka, Mullayanagiri is blessed with some of the most beautiful and magical hillocks. We feasted our eyes on coffee plantations, fascinating peaks, hillocks and lush meadows on the way.

Sarpadhari is the base of Mullayanagiri peak. This is where we parked our car and began our trek, which was about three kilometres long. The trek was not so difficult and we reached the top of the hill in two hours.

The landscape was dramatically different and beautiful. As a cool breeze set in, we were refreshed and happy in the company of nature. The bright hued flowers, the clouds sailing across the clear sky and the lush greenery filled our hearts with joy. We watched the beautiful sunset and drove back to Bengaluru with loads of wonderful memories.
