A teenager allegedly kidnapped his three-year-old cousin after being scolded by the child’s mother in outer Delhi last week.

The 18-year-old then left the boy on a train and went to Mumbai.

The child escaped a possible ill-fate as someone led him to police who sent him to a child welfare home. The child has been restored to his parents and the accused arrested, police said on Thursday.

On October 28, Kirari-resident Rajesh Gupta had approached local police reporting that his son Aman was missing from their house.

“All procedures and guidelines related to kidnapping cases were followed meticulously, but no clue emerged,” said Vikramjit Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police (outer).
An extensive search was made in nearby police stations’ areas as well as in adjoining districts, but the whereabouts of the child was not ascertained.

After about three days, it emerged that a cousin of the missing child had also not been seen.

Efforts were made to trace Deepak and it was found that he had gone to Mumbai.
A police team was sent to apprehend Deepak.

“He was held on Monday,” Singh added. During interrogation, he disclosed that he used to live in a joint family along with his parents, uncle and aunt.

“Due to the complaints made by his aunt, his mother used to scold and sometimes even beat him,” Singh said.

Deepak then hatched a plan to teach a lesson to his aunt. He decided to kidnap his cousin and abandoned him on a Saharanpur-bound train at Old Delhi railway station.
Based on his interrogation, a police team checked all railway stations and GRP police stations on Saharanpur track.

An information was received from Ghaziabad railway station that two women had left an unidentified abandoned child with GRP few days back.

“The child was handed over to orphanage Gharaunda. Our team has restored the child to his parents,” Singh added.
