Minister of State for Finance Jayant Sinha on Friday slammed Moody’s Analytics for “baseless” criticism of the Narendra Modi government.

The minister said the argument that either “check BJP members or risk losing credibility” was shallow and came at a time when opponents are “restless” over the Centre’s success.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the Delhi Economics Conclave, Sinha told reporters, “Moody’s comment was totally baseless and there is no depth in its argument.”

“As we become successful and do good work for people of the country, our opponents will become restless. When they become restless, such kinds of comments will come,” he said.

Sinha’s potshot at the agency followed a strongly-worded statement from the Prime Minister’s Office that said “opinion of a Junior Associate Economist employed with Moody's Analytics has been splashed all across implying it as the opinion of Moody’s Analytics”.

But, a Moody’s Analytics spokesperson issued a statement on Thursday to stand by the report which they said was the view of the agency. “The report was published by and is the view of Moody’s Analytics as part of its economic outlook series,” the spokesperson had said.
