Hindu outfits stage protest, condemn Tipu Jayanti

Members of Hindu Jagarana Vedike, Vishwa Hindu Parishat, Bajrang Dal and BJP workers staged a protest condemning the government’s move to celebrate Tipu Sulthan’s birth anniversary on Nov 10.

The protesters took out a procession from Chowdeshwari temple and culminated at Gandhi Maidan. Later, they submitted a memorandum to Deputy Commissioner Meer Anees Ahmmed.

Zilla Panchayat president Chodumada Shareen Subbaiah called upon the people to voluntarily participate in a bandh on November 10.

Kodagu district BJP Mahila Morcha president Mandepanda Kanthi Sathish accused that the State government was celebrating Tipu Jayanti to woo minorities.

Briefing reporters, she said the Congress government's move to celebrate Tipu Sultan’s birth anniversary was an attempt by the ruling party to strengthen its vote bank.

“Tipu had murdered Kodavas at Devatiparambu. By observing Tipu’s birth anniversary, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is provoking Kodavas. November 10 will be observed as black day in Kodagu.”

Mahila Morcha General Secretary Geetha condemned the move of the State government.

CNC flays Codava National Council (CNC) has extended its support to black day call given by BJP and other Hindu organisations in Kodagu on November 10.

In a memorandum submitted to the deputy commissioner, CNC president N U Nachappa demanded that the Tipu Jayanthi should not be celebrated. “To strengthen the vote bank, the government is trying to project Tipu as a patriot and freedom fighter. The celebration is an insult to Codavas as Tipu had murdered Kodavas, at Devatiparambu. All the Kodavas should oppose the celebrations by wearing black badge. He said that there are evidences to prove that Tipu had destroyed temples in Bhagamandala, Malethirike, Noorakkanad.
