Alang Aier, a homemaker, finds immense joy in devoting time to her passion for art and craft. “It is a meditation of sorts for me. It relaxes my mind and takes me back to my school days when I started crafting and creating new things,” she says.

She is drawn to any creative idea though she doesn’t remember the first thing she made. She says those days were more of experimenting with different things that she found around her. However, she proudly claims, “It’s been almost 8 years since I am in a relationship with art and craft.”

If one pays a visit to her house, they would not miss noticing that every corner within the four walls is creatively embellished with various handmade decorative items.

From flower baskets made solely with paper, bottles decorated with egg shells, wall and glass bottle painting to paper and satin flowers and hair bands as well as shoes knit for new borns, her works are varied, neat and detailed.

She says, “My house is like a treasure box loaded with things related to art and craft, like the stack of paper for my flowers, newspaper tubes for my baskets, sequins, beads, fabrics for stitching, canvas and brushes, hooks, needles and wool for my crochet work. My hobby list is endless. And I can’t decide, which among them is my favourite one. All of them are like my babies and are my favourites. I love engaging in each one of them.”

For Alang it has become a regular job to reveal her creative side and craft something different, innovative and unique every time. Whether it is for gifting a friend,
decorating her house or to complete the tonnes of orders she gets from family and friends.

She says, “I get many orders from my friends, thanks to them for putting a good word for me. I hope to put everything I design and create in a concrete place where there will be something for everyone.”

She loves displaying her creations at various exhibitions, the recent one being at VIBGYOR school during an inter-school and college festival. She is currently working for her next exhibition that is just a few months away.

She adds, “Feedback from family and friends matters the most to me— from them come the constructive criticism. They speak straight from the heart and of course, they are not biased. I can say that none of my creations go out without them seeing it first.”

So how does she balance her time? “I have a timetable, each and every minute counts, sometimes my timetable goes topsy-turvy but I am able to manage things, thanks to my multi-tasking ability. When it is my time, I don't care what is going on around me or the world— it’s just me and my work,” she shares.

“My husband’s continuous support has helped me work on all the crazy ideas that pop up in my mind. He encourages and gives me a lot of freedom to do my work. Without his support, I wouldn't have achieved all this. This Deepavali I can't wait to light the diyas and the paper lanterns I have made. It is pretty exciting as its our first Deepavali in this house,” she shares.
