Drugs worth Rs 48L seized

The Central Crime Branch (CCB) sleuths have arrested a person in Madiwala for selling ephidrine, a narcotic substance.

According to the police, the arrested has been identified as Mahalinga, 45, a resident of Kagallipura and an autorickshaw driver.

They have recovered 4.810 kg of ephidrine, valued at Rs 48 lakh. A few days ago, Mahalinga was walking on the Ring Road, when he found a bag containing the narcotic substance.

He thought of making some quick buck and began selling it for Rs 400 per gram. The CCB sleuths, in the guise of customers, asked him to deliver the substance at Madiwala.

When Mahalinga came to Madiwala, he was arrested and the substance was recovered. A case has been registered against him at the Madiwala police station.

Death due to tree fall
A 35-year-old man succumbed to injuries after a tree fell on him near MC Layout in Vijayanagar on Wednesday morning.

According to the police, the deceased, Manjunath, a private company employee, was residing at Maruthi Mandira in Marenhalli. He was returning home on his bike, when a tree came crashing down on him.

Manjunath collapsed on the ground and suffered serious head injuries. Passersby rushed him to the BGS Hospital where he succumbed to injuries in the evening. The tree was said to be more than 50 years old and had gone weak. The BBMP staff were alerted, who chopped off the remaining portion of the tree and cleared the road. A case of unnatural death has been registered at the Vijayanagar police station.
