Jindal backtracks on school of economics

Last Updated 11 November 2015, 20:48 IST

Setting up of Sitaram Jindal School of Economics on the Bangalore University campus has hit a dead end, with the Jindal Institute wanting to roll back its decision.

According to Bangalore University officials, the institute had faxed its decision that it did not want to go ahead with the proposal. The University will now write to the government not to go ahead with the files in this regard. The proposal to set up the school of economics has been a roller coaster ride with the institute having reversed its decision once in the past, in the wake of opposition. This time too, several student bodies opposed the decision of a private institute to set up school on the University campus.

The vice-chancellor, however, had assured that the school would only be named after Jindal Institute but the land and infrastructure would remain with the University. The University Syndicate had even passed a resolution allowing the setting up of the school on its campus.
