An Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) in his early thirties who was posted with the Special Cell of the Delhi Police allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with his service revolver in his apartment in Noida Sector-100.

His wife too tried to kill herself by jumping from the sixth floor of their apartment. She is battling for life in a private hospital. “We have got the information of the death of ACP Amit Singh, who was posted in special cell of the Delhi Police,’’ said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell), ramod Singh Kushwaha.

Singh was posted in south western range of Delhi Police’s Anti Terrorist Squad (ATS). He was a Delhi, Andaman and Nicobar Islands Police Service (DANIP) officer of 2010 batch.

Before being posted in Special Cell, Singh was an ACP at Mandir Marg and Preet Vihar police station also. According to sources, the relations between Singh and his wife were strained for some time and there were frequent quarrels over the issue of property between the two.

The Noida police are investigating the case and waiting the injured wife to recover to record her statement. A native of Bihar’s Chapra district, Singh was involved in a road rage case in 2014 where he was assaulted by a motorist. Singh is survived by his wife and a two-year-old child.
