Man kidnapped to recover loan

A 44-year-old man was kidnapped and a ransom of Rs 2 lakh was demanded from his wife in north Delhi.

Ramchander had stood as a guarantor in a deal involving his brother. When the brother refused to return the money, Ramchander was kidnapped to recover the amount. He was rescued within 24 hours and the main conspirator was arrested, police said on Thursday.

The arrested accused has been identified as Kailash Das Bihari, a resident of Wazirpur. On Monday, Ramchander’s wife Sunita had made a PCR call regarding the kidnapping.

“The kidnapper demanded Rs 2 lakh. It was found that Kailash was the main conspirator,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (North West) Vijay Singh. Kailash’s movement was tracked and surveillance was kept.

The kidnapper initially fixed the meeting point at Inder Lok. However, sensing police presence, he changed the location to Dhyan Chand National Stadium near India Gate. Kailash changed the location for the third time to Bhagwan Mahavir Hospital in Rohini. “Sunita was asked to come there with a family friend named Upender,” Singh added.

A trap was laid, after which Kailash was apprehended. During interrogation, Kailash said he had to take Rs 2 lakh from Ramchander’s brother Satish. “Since Ramchander stood as a guarantor in the deal, Kailash asked him to return the money,” Singh said.

Despite repeated demands, neither Satish nor Ramchander paid up. Then Kailash along with his accomplices hatched a conspiracy to kidnap Ramchander. Kailash told police that he knew a man named Sumit who introduced him to three criminals.

On Monday, the four men reached Rampura Park and kidnapped Ramchander. He was going to office in Lawrence Road Industrial Area.

“Ramchander was initially kept hostage in the jungle area of Shahbad Dairy. The location was later changed to Wazirpur JJ colony, from where he was rescued,” Singh added.
