Last Updated 21 November 2015, 19:33 IST

A day after the Army said terror outfits  Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) and Islamic State (IS) may be joining hands to carry out attacks in India, the LeT on Saturday dismissed the charges, saying “we do not attack innocent civilians”.

A local news agency KNS quoting LeT chief Mehmood Shah’s emailed statement, said:  “Daish (IS) is an anti-Islam group created by the West, and India is also involved in its creation.” “Our aim is to fight Indian Army in Kashmir, and not to attack innocent civilians within India. The assertion made by the army is propaganda to defame us which India has been doing for several decades,” Shah said.

General Officer Commanding of the 16-Corps had on Thursday expressed apprehensions that “the IS could join hands with LeT to launch attacks in India can be a possibility as the motive of the terrorists is to spread their propaganda.”“Yes, that (IS joining hands with LeT to launch attacks in India) can be a possibility as the motive of the terrorists is to spread their propaganda,” Lt Gen R R Nimbhorkar had said.
