Alva's Nudisiri set to enthral literary enthusiasts from Dec 1

Alva's Education Foundation will organise Alva's Nudisiri, the annual literary and cultural festival, in Moodbidri from December 1 to 3.

Briefing reporters on Saturday, Foundation chairperson Dr M Mohan Alva said that Kannada writer and movie director Nagathihalli Chandrashekar will preside over the three-day literary meet. Critic Dr C N Ramachandran will inaugurate the meet. Kannada Sahitya Parishat president Manu Baligar will be the chief guest. The theme of the meet is "Karnataka: Bahuthvada Nelegalu" (Karnataka: Roots of Pluralism).

Dr Alva said that three major sessions on various subjects will be held during Nudisiri. Dr Krishnamurthy Hanooru, R Tarini Shubhadayini, Dr Niranjan Vanalli, Dr Nithyananda B Shetty, N Ravishankar, S Shadakshari, and Veena Bannanje will take part in these sessions.

Dr G B Harish, Dr D S Chowgale, Prof Niranjanaradhya, A Ishwarayya, Muralidhara Ballakkuraya, Dr Ramjaz Dargah, and Prof Ravindra Reshme will deliver special lectures in the annual literary event, added Dr Alva.

Poetry recitation

In 'Kavi Samaya Kavi Namana,' nine poets will recite their poems. They are Jayappa Honnali, Dr M Mohammed Basha Goolyam, Prof H Ramesh Kedilaya, Dr P Chandrika, Dr Latha Guthi, Dr Anand Rigvedi, Rekha Kakhandaki and V S Shyanbagh. A talk on Enagi Balappa, Chittani Ramachandra Hegde will be held on the occasion.

As the birth centenary of well-known Kannada writers M Gopalakrishna Adiga ad M K Indira are celebrated this year, a talk in their memory will be delivered by S R Vijayashankar and Bhuvaneshwari Hegde respectively.

Further, Dr Alva said that theatre person Kasargod Chinna, Capt Naveen Nagappa (who was a part of Kargil war) and former Lokayukta N Santosh Hegde will share their experiences in "Nanna Kathe Nimma Jothe" programme.

Nudisiri awards

Dr Alva said that 15 achievers will be conferred Alva's Nudisiri awards during the valedictory. The award carries a cash of Rs 25,000 and a citation.

The award winners are Bishop Henry D'Souza, H S Doreswamy, N Santosh Hegde, Dr Tejaswi Kattimani, Dr Siddalinga Pattanashetty, Dr Vijaya Dabbe, Prof B K Siddaiah, Prof G H Hanneradumata, Prof B Surendra Rao, Dr M Prabhakar Joshi, Girish Bharadwaj, Padmaraj Dandavathi, Rathnamala Prakash, Dr Thonse Vijaykumar Shetty, and Lakshminarayana Acharya.

Krishi Siri

The Krishi Siri, which will be held as a part of Nudisiri, will be inaugurated by former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda. Cattle fair, cat show, dog show, 600 aquariums, over 500 sea shells expo, exotic birds, bonsai, flower show, colourful and ornamental plants from New Zealand, 44 varieties of bamboo plants, cottage industries related to agriculture and over 250 stalls related to agriculture will be part of Krishi Siri, said Dr Alva and added that vegetables cultivated on two-acre area in the vicinity will be an attraction to visitors.

There will be a beauty contest for Kambala buffaloes at 4.30 pm on December 1. The winning owners of the buffaloes will get Rs 50,000, Rs 30,000 and Rs 20,000 respectively. Similarly, there will be a contest for buffalo riders and the winners will get Rs 10,000 and Rs 7,000 respectively.

The Tulu programme will be inaugurated by Karnataka Tulu Sahithya Academy president A C Bhandary on November 1. Stating that the Tulu cultural programmes will be held on all the three days, Dr Alva said that programmes on Tulu achievers and Tulu-Kannada writers will be held.

In addition, "Alva's Chitrasiri" will be held, in which 34 artists will take part. Alva's "Chayachitrasiri", "Alva's Chukki Chithrasiri," "Alva's Galipatasiri," "Alva's Udyogasiri," "Alva's Rangasiri," "Alva's Cinisiri," "Alva's Vyangyachitrasiri," "Alva's Goodudeepasiri," "Alva's Yakshasiri" and "Alva's vijnanasiri" will be held.

"Alva's Udyogasiri," is being organised for those who have studied up to SSLC in Kannada medium schools.

Alva's Vidyasiri

Dr Alva said that "Alva's Vidyasiri", the students' literary and cultural meet, will be held on November 30. SDM PU College student Arjun Shenoy will preside over the programme. Theatre and cine actor Mandya Ramesh will inaugurate and meritorious students from Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Kasargod will take part in the programme.
