With the MLC elections round the corner, the JD(S) has reached out to the Congress yet again, wanting to form an alliance to fight the elections to 25 seats.

On Monday evening, JD(S) MLAs B Z Zameer Ahmed Khan and Akhanda Srinivasmurthy met AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh at the Kempegowda International Airport.

Sources said,  JD(S) supremo H D Deve Gowda also spoke to Singh over phone suggesting that like the previous term, this time too the two parties should fight the elections together.

Khan said that Singh did not give any commitment, but said that the JD(S) leadership should hold parleys with the Congress high command.

“He has proposed that we meet AICC vice president Rahul Gandhi, who will be in Bengaluru on November 25. We are hopeful that something fruitful will emerge out of this meeting,” he added.

Recently, Gowda had, in Hassan, indicated that his party was open to a tie up with Congress. Interestingly, this time too his son H D Kumaraswamy had no say in the matter.

Kumaraswamy had made his reservations clear when his party formed an alliance with Congress to fight the BBMP polls. The JD(S) is hoping that it can convince Congress to let it contest at least 7 to 8 seats - Tumakuru, Mysuru, Hassan, Kolar, Bengaluru Rural, Chikkamagaluru and Shivamogga.
