IS tricks Indians into suicide attacks: Report

Three of the six killed in Syria are from State

Terror recruits from India and South Asian countries like Pakistan and Bangladesh are tricked into suicide attacks and are forced to the battle frontline with inferior equipment by the Islamic State (IS), a report by the security establishment stated.

The report, “The IS”, further states that the terror outfit considers these recruits as “not martially inclined" and “inferior to” Arab fighters, as they are “less motivated for Salafist Jihad”.

While pegging the total number of Indians recruited to the IS at 23, the report also officially confirms for the first time the death of six Indian recruits, including three from Karnataka, while fighting the dreaded terror outfit against which western countries have formed a coalition and launched military attacks.

As the security establishment scrambles to counter the propaganda war launched by the IS to lure youths, the report said the outfit believes that Islam practiced in India, Pakistan and Bangladesh as “apostate and a departure from the original teachings” of Quran and Hadith.

The reason recruits from “India, Pakistan, Bangladesh as well as certain other countries like Nigeria and Sudan are considered inferior to Arab fighters,” the report stated.

Tricked into attacks
“Usually, they (South Asian recruits) are given a vehicle loaded with explosives and asked to go near a targeted destination and call a certain number, who would purportedly come and meet them to explain the mission, However, as soon as the number is dialled, the car explodes due to a pre-set mechanism aimed at destroying a specific target,” the report said.

On the “disproportionately high level of casualty” among South Asian and African terrorists in the IS ranks, the report noted that these recruits are forced to the frontlines of battle as foot soldiers while Arab fighters with “better battle experience are mostly positioned behind these fighters”.

“Hence their casualties are proportionally less in terms of their total numbers. This explains why so many Indians from the small Indian contingent have died,” the report said.

Foreign terrorists are also lured by the prospect of getting jihadi brides but they are not preferred, the report said. “There is a clear priority list wherein senior commanders and ethnic Arabic fighters get the first preference for a jihadi bride. The foreign terrorists from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nigeria and Sudan are the lowest in priority for jihadi brides since they are considered ethnically inferior to breed the next generation of jihadi fighters in IS territory,” it added. In the latest issue of its magazine “Dabiq”, the IS also refers to the terror outfits operating in Jammu & Kashmir “whose advances and withdrawals are only by the order of the apostate Pakistani army” in not so complimentary terms.

The government analysis comes close on the heels of reports about rivalry between the IS and al Qaeda for the leadership of global jihad.
