Karnataka Minorities Welfare Minister Qamarul Islam on Tuesday said that the State government will  constitute a task force headed by the Superintendent of Police in each district to clear encroachments on wakf properties.

The minister, who was here to attend the meeting convened by Union Minorities Welfare Minister Najma Heptulla to review the centrally sponsored schemes in the states, told reporters that Karnataka has also taken up the survey of wakf properties across the State and 80 per cent of the task had been completed.

He said the State government has completed the process of recruitment of officers to fill the vacant posts in the Directorate of Minorities and orders will be issued soon.  Karnataka has made separate cadre and recruitment rules for Karnataka Wakf Board. The proposal to provide judicial powers to the Karnataka State Minorities Commission is before the Cabinet for its approval, the minister added.
