Woman mysteriously dies in her home

A 25-year-old woman died under mysterious circumstances at her house in Peenya second stage on Thursday. The deceased has been identified as Shanthamma, a native of Maddur in Mandya district.

According to police, Shanthamma had fallen in love with Chidananda and married him four years ago. The couple have a two-and-half-year old daughter and work at a garments factory in Peenya.

Chidananda, in his complaint, his wife was electrocuted while she was heating water with immersion coil around 5 in the morning. He claimed that Shanthamma collapsed in the house and he rushed her to a nearby hospital, but she died on the way.

However, the woman’s parents alleged dowry harassment and suspected that Chidananda could have murdered Shanthamma. Chidananda has been booked under Section 304B of IPC (dowry death) and taken into custody for questioning, police said.

Woman hangs herself

In another incident, Hema-latha, 26, a resident of Peenya second stage, committed suicide by hanging herself at her house. She was married to H K Suresh about eight years ago.

In the complaint, Suresh told the police that the incident occurred around 10 am. “I was discussing some matter with a friend after dropping children at the school. My wife called me and asked me to rush home immediately. I told her that I would be late as I was talking to a friend. She scolded me and asking me who mattered for me - friend or wife - and disconnected the call,” he told the police.

He returned home after some time. He opened the door and saw her hanging from the ceiling. He rushed her to a nearby hospital, but she died on the way, he added in the complaint.

The woman parents told the police that the couple were happily married and there were no issues between the two. They also told the police that Hemalatha was a short-tempered woman, said the police.
