Cuddly puppies come with cabs for Bengaluru's Uber app users

It was an unusual day for Uber app users in the City. Apart from booking cabs, they were able to request for four-legged furry animals to arrive at their doorstep to cuddle them for a short period - to explore the idea of adopting a stray pup.

The idea was to ward off Monday blues at work and to encourage people for adopting puppies. It worked extremely fine for Rekha Ramamma, an employee of Tally Solutions.

Rekha said that she and her husband have been considering adopting a pup and were against purchasing any pedigree dog.

“Adopting a puppy is like bringing up a child with equal responsibility. I wanted to understand if I was ready to bring a pup home. Uber gave the opportunity for people like me to cuddle these stray animals and to think about adoption. The puppy was brought to our office in Bommanahalli and I, along with my colleagues, played with it,” she added.

For seven-year-old Devaarsh, it was his uncle’s surprise that brought puppies to him and allowed him to play with them without any fear. Devaarsh’s mother Suchi Mehta said that her son was fond of dogs and they were thinking about visiting an animal shelter.

“Although my son loves to play with dogs, we never allowed him to go near stray dogs for the fear that he would be bitten. But bringing these dogs home helped us understand better about adoption. My son had the best time playing with the pups imitating, feeding and running around with them,” Suchi Mehta added.

Voice of Stray Dogs
Uber partnered with ‘Voice of Stray Dogs’ to bring home the pups on request through the app and the Twitter handle UberBangalore had amazing responses from many of the customers who had made the request to bring the pups home. People who used the service shared their experience on the social media.

 @Houzify wrote “Monday has been made! Meet Sparky - our adorable guest for today! Thank you.”

Apoorva Savant wrote “Cute li'l Sparky who came to give us some monday morning cuddles!.” 

K Vaitheeswaran commented: “Awesome and cuddly experience with #UberPUPPIES. Brilliant marketing promotion by @UberIndia.”

According to the Uber spokesperson, there was quite a demand for the Uberpuppies from noon to 3 pm as there were continuous requests.

Pups were taken to the doorstep of 15 customers on Monday.
