CPM line of forging ties with Cong runs into trouble

Last Updated 13 January 2016, 20:00 IST

The CPM’s line of forging an alliance with the Congress to defeat Mamata Banerjee-led Trinmool Congress in the coming Bengal Assembly elections is being opposed by its partners in the Left Front. The CPIML-Liberation is planning not to join such an alliance. The party will even contest against the proposed alliance.

“This would be sabotaging the prospect of the Left coming on its own. How can we go with the Congress? There is no difference between BJP and the Congress, ” a senior CPIML leader told Deccan Herald.

“The policy of allying with the Congress to gain power is sheer opportunism. The Left parties should refrain from that,” said the leader. Some CPI leaders have also reservations about the proposed alliance.
