It was all fun and play at the first-of-its-kind ‘Bengaluru Carnival’ organised by Deccan Herald at the Phoenix Market City in Whitefield on Saturday.

Ushering in a weekend treat for Bengalureans, there was something for everyone under one roof - a flea market, fun-filled children’s games, an array of food and musical bands. The two-day extravaganza will conclude on Sunday.

The carnival was a perfect destination for people of all ages. At the entrance, a circle of fun events attracted children of different ages for its variety of classic carnival games.

Little kids were seen taking part in a number of activities spread over the open ground. Of the many, games such as bouncy slides, ‘rock’ climbing, bubble trouble and hoopla seemed to be the most popular among children. The others tried their hands at hammer, bull riding, dart, etc.

Steps away, a flea market, displayed a range of items in more than 60 stalls. Mostly by start-ups, the handmade and culture-specific items attracted the passing crowd.

While Aditi Mahajan exhibited most colourful and exquisite arts and crafts made by her mother Sunila Mahajan, the others sold jewels, dry flowers, wooden articles, which largely presented themselves as a gift gallery and of fashion. Amid the hustle and bustle, Sathish Kumar displayed his fine tricks in mind-reading magic with rope, coins and balls.
Apart from this, the food venue was a favourite destination. There was no dearth of choice of eateries for gastronomers.

Music concerts

In addition, the concert by five bands was something that stood out in the carnival after dusk.

The bands belted out popular English and Hindi numbers to the cheers of music lovers. Bands such as Kingdom Come, the Black Hats, Scotch Tape, Ranjan Michael, Rudra Ritwik took turns to wow the crowd at the carnival.
