Procession of Ambedkar's books on January 26

Programme to create awareness about Constitution Day

As a part of 66th Constitution Day, residents of Ashokapuram have planned to take out a procession of books written by Dr B R Ambedkar, on January 26, also observed as Republic Day.

Addressing media persons, one of the organisers Sudheendra said in an attempt to spread the message of Ambedkar and his contribution towards the nation, the event had been organised. The programme also intends to create awareness among citizens about significance of the Constitution Day. Many citizens are unaware of the day and are celebrating Republic Day, he said.

Books on collection of speeches of Ambedkar, his letters and other events related to the great personality’s life, published by Prasaranga, a publication unit of University of Mysore and other publications, will be taken out in a procession, he added.

The procession will commence from Town Hall and pass through the major thoroughfares including D Devaraja Urs Road and other major streets in the City. Following the procession, an interaction session and cultural activities have also been organised at Ashokapuram, he said.

Revenue and District In-charge Minister V Srinivas Prasad will flag off the procession. Mayor B L Bhyrappa, Deputy  Commissioner C Shikha and Police Commissioner B Dayananda are expected to attend, Sudheendra added.
