Maestros on stage

The Bharatiya Samagana Sabha is presenting its seventh annual music festival, ‘Samaya Raga Sangeethotsava’ from January 27 to 31 at Chowdiah Memorial Hall. The inaugural concert on January 27, 5.30 pm will feature a performance by Dr Mysore Manjunath on the violin and Rajesh Vaidya on the veena.

The festival will bring together artistes from the South and the North, instrumentalists and vocalists, senior artistes and young performers in the five-day musical treat for classical music lovers. The musicians who are slated to perform include Priya Sisters, Aruna Sairam, Shubha Mudgal and Ranjani Gayathri among others.

Flute maestro Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia will perform on January 31, 5 pm. He will also be felicitated with the ‘Bharatiya Samagana Mathanga Award’ on the same day.

For the first time, there will be a day dedicated exclusively for showcasing talent among young artistes called ‘Yuva Savishkara’. The programme will be on January 30, from 9 am to 6 pm. Conceptualised on the time theory of ‘ragas’, the festival will showcase music based on the time of the day.

The Saint Thyagaraja ‘Aradhana’ will feature a combined performance by flautist Shashank Subhramanyam and vocalist Abhishek Raghuram. They will be performing together for the first time at Chowdiah Hall on January 31 at 10 am. This will be followed by the ‘Purandhara Aradhane’ concert by Sangeetha Katti. Entry is free.
