Suitcase abandoned at KIA

Tension prevailed for a while at the Kempegowda International Airport on Friday evening as a suitcase was abandoned near the KIAL administrative office.

The suitcase was abandoned since afternoon and security guards alerted the staff around 6 pm. The local police and Industrial Security Force staff rushed there and alerted the bomb detection and disposal squad, said the police.

The squad staff took position, placed barricades near the suitcase and tested it with the help of a scanner. They confirmed that there was nothing inside the suitcase around 8.30 pm, said DCP (Northeast) Dr Harsha.

In a separate incident, the International Airport police detained an industrialist for carrying a weapon into the airport. The police detained the suspect, Satish, and released him later as he had valid documents for the possession of the weapon.

He had come to the KIAL to drop his friend. During the verification, the guards spotted the weapon he was carrying and informed the police.
