A twist to toast

Last Updated 05 February 2016, 18:42 IST

Cooking and practising the traditions of France might be a hard task due to its rigidness. But an Indian twist to any cuisine – be it French or European – is welcomed by the city’s foodies with much enthusiasm. It is this philosophy of the gastronomers that has made ‘Toast - Not just Sandwiches’, a popular hangout in Jayanagar.

A pocket-friendly outlet filled mostly with college crowd, they have a distorted, handwritten sort of a menu with dishes that make for a quick bite. The popular smileys, cheese shots, French fries and potato wedges, which do not require much experience coming to judging their taste, have become a treat to the college-goers.

As the name of the outlet rightly describes, they do not just toast sandwiches but a whole lot things. The chocolate toast here is an unconventional addition in the menu and includes ‘only chocolate’, ‘only white’, ‘choc cheese’ and ‘black and white’ toasts. Everything they serve here is a hit due to its humble taste. With a wide variety of sandwiches including the popular Indian flavours such as ‘garlic corn’, ‘bombay masala’ and ‘onion masala’, they are sought-after for the generous spread of butter and cheese in them. One can enjoy these flavoursome bites while indulging in fun games they offer at its cosy, cheerful ambience. And yes, do not ignore the maggi that is cooked and served here. With whole lot of fun ingredients mixed with the plain Maggi, they are served at a reasonable price.

To garnish the thirst, they offer a variety of coolers, some of which include guava fizz, green apple fizz, kiwi coolers and lemon crushers. If you are looking for something hot to go with the spicy maggi you just had, then there is a choice of different flavoured hot teas and some cappuccino and cafe latte too.
