Men's day out

Men’s fashion industry in India is growing at a steady rate and retail sector has responded to changing taste of metrosexual man. He is willing to spend beyond gizmos, gadgets, cars and watches, and is investing in self grooming. But unlike women, he doesn’t have a single destination or platform that caters to ‘men only’ and hence he ends up going to different places to shop as per his liking.

Smriti Puri realised such a platform was missing after seeing her husband and two sons’ dejected faces who would come home disappointed after their shopping spree. So she decided to have a platform where bespoke men’s fashion brands will come under one roof. This is how the concept ‘Gentlemen’s Club’ came to her mind.

The two-day event will make its debut in the capital on February 20 at Indigo, One Golden Mile and will have apparels from designers like Shivan Naresh, Sachin Vaish, Sahil Aneja and Dhruv Kapoor, along with brands like Maserati, Jaguar, Ducati, Vacheron Constantine, Dormeuil, Outhouse Luxury, Brahms and Titliest under one roof.

“This event is the amalgamation of several aspects of men’s fashion where high-end meets affordable fashion. I personally feel that men’s market is untapped and we don’t have a platform where men can go and explore bespoke fashion,” says Smriti, one of the founders.

“Men’s domain is a tough domain to walk into because women are everywhere. So even before investing in this idea, me and my partner (Poonam Gurbuxani Puri) deliberated and discussed in great deal,” she adds.

The duo is trying to create an experience where men can come along with their wives or friends and go to the cigar lounge or enjoy a drink in the beer garden. “We want to create an experience so that people have recall value and come back next time,” says Smriti, adding they plan to make it a biannual event.
