After succeeding in retaining clean city tag (Swacch Mysuru), the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) has continued to target various groups to carry forward the activities towards maintaining a cleaner environment.

On Friday, a meeting of the representatives of various hospitals and nursing homes, besides primary health centres, both government and private, was convened at the old council hall of the MCC. This comes weeks after hoteliers were roped in to spread the message of cleanliness among the fraternity.

MCC Commissioner C G Betsurmath categorically directed the hospital authorities to undertake following activities till February 28—educating the staff and visitors on the significance of cleanliness with the help of posters, removal of used surgical materials among other articles usually found dumped in the open near hospitals, development of open spaces as recreation area for out-patients, disposal of vehicles not in use, maintenance of water tank, keeping dust bins along with collection and cleaning schedule and measures to check stray dog menace around the hospital.

Measures “Most importantly, measures should be taken to recycle dry waste, and segregate dry and wet waste at the source itself. Besides, the staff should be trained on hand-washing methods, segregation of waste, management of bio-waste and its treatment and maintenance of operation theatres, labour room, nursery, intensive care units and emergency wings at the hospital,” he said.
