The first performance appraisal of the All India Services (AIS) officers of Karnataka cadre began on Monday. The exercise will cover close to 200 - IAS, IPS and Indian Forest Service (IFS) officials who have completed 15 years and 25 years of service and those who have reached 50 years.

The appraisals are being done as per the AIS conduct rules (Death cum Retirement Benefits) amended in 2012.  Appraisals are being done by a committee headed by Chief Secretary Arvind Jadav.

“It was a preliminary meeting. It is difficult to expect any outcome as the committee will have to go by the record on files (Annaul Performance Appraisal Report),’’ a source said. Under the new rule, the government can ask the “inefficient” and “corrupt’’ officials to take compulsory retirement from service by giving three months notice.
