With Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) succeeding in retaining its top ranking in the recent ‘Swachh Bharat Survekshan’, Deputy Commissioner C Shikha, on Wednesday, launched an exercise to adopt cleanliness measures at government offices. Best ‘clean office’ will be presented an award.

Presiding over a meeting held at her office, the DC said cleaning government offices are one of the many programmes devised by the Union Ministry of Urban Development. It is the responsibility of every office head and staff to keep both interiors and exteriors of the office clean, she added.

The drive will be held till March 15, the officer said.
She said, not much effort is required to maintain cleanliness in the city that is already spick and span. It could be attributed to most of the offices functioning in good old buildings, a credit again, unlike any other part of the State.

Earlier, the main building of the MCC on New Sayyaji Rao road was dusted off with Mayor B L Bhyrappa, MCC Commissioner C G Betsurmath and corporators supervising it. On March 3, similar exercise will be conducted at the DC’s office and all nine zonal offices of MCC, followed by Zilla Panchayat office on March 4.

Explaining about the programme, Betsurmath said, cleanliness drives were conducted at hospitals in the first phase, that will be followed by government offices.

The department heads should administer ‘Swachh Oath’ to the staff and encourage them to maintain cleanliness. Besides, awareness should be created among visitors too, besides imposing a total ban on plastic. A team of personnel from the MCC will be visiting the offices for evaluation between March 16 and 21.

Additional Deputy Commissioner T Venkatesh, Senior Deputy Director for Food and Civil Supplies K S Rameshwarappa, DDPI H R Basappa, Executive Engineer, PWD, Raju, Kannada and Culture Department Assistant Director Nirmala Matapathi and others attended the meeting.
