Rain, accompanied by gusty winds, lashed Kalaburagi on Wednesday bringing the much-needed relief to the people reeling under oppressive heat conditions. The evening showers brought down the temperature appreciably.
The city had been reeling under heat conditions with mercury hovering around 38 and 39 degree Celsius for the last two weeks or so.
The gusty winds prior to showers caused huge clouds of dust everywhere leading to severe inconvenience to people. The electricity remained cut off in several areas for hours.
Farmers worried
Maiden summer rains on Wednesday evening brought cheers to the people of Vijayapura. The skies opened up at 6:30 pm and continued to pour for over half-an-hour.
The unseasonal rain, however, has caused some concern for the farmers. The showers would hinder harvesting of crops. Mahalingapur town in Bagalkot district also received showers on Wednesday evening. Belagavi city too received heavy showers towards evening.
