Cashing on the emerging scenario, IBM, with its tool Lotus Connection 2.5— an enhanced version of its Lotus solution, has set up another campaigning — social media for improving productivity and business with a comprehensive social software platform.

IBM Lotus Connection, developed by IBM research labs, empowers business and professionals to develop, nurture and remain in contact with network of their colleagues.
It allows them to share information, profile, online discussion forms and collaboration, creating a peer circle within the company.

According to IBM Lotus Software Country Manager Karthik Padmanabhan “unlike public social networking sites, Lotus Connection 2.5 helps oragnisations to create social web within private network to keep crucial information within network and is not affected by external parties.” In Lotus Connection 2.5, IBM has added features like blogs, wikipedia, activities and home page. Wiki allows teams to create content collaboratively, the personal file sharing service helps in uploading files and comments.

The advanced activities and home page  feature helps companies gather e-mails, chats, messages and documents needed for doing business and also updates from across professional social network. It also helps companies to locate people and experts in various domains within the network.

“The goal of Lotus Connections is to empower companies to be more innovative and help them execute more quickly by using dynamic networks of co-workers, partners and customers,” Padmanabhan added.

IBM believes that collaboration and social media is the key component and trend in business and have already added companies from various verticals like media, entertainment, BFSI etc into its kitty.

Understanding the growing penetration of smart phones and rise in number of mobile work force, IBM has customised its Lotus Connections 2.5 paltform to support mobile browsers.
