Following the incident of a National Law School of India University (NLSIU) professor making ‘objectionable’ remarks on the dress sense of a girl student, the University’s vice-chancellor on Sunday issued a statement that the matter had been “resolved amicably.”

The statement was issued after a meeting between the Prof V Nagraj, students and office bearers of the Student Bar Association on Sunday.

When asked what “amicably resolved” meant and if the professor had retracted his statements, Dr Venkata Rao, vice-chancellor, NLSIU called it “an internal matter” and refused to divulge further details.

In its Sunday’s edition, Deccan Herald had quoted a student representative saying that the professor had expressed regret about the incident and had apologised.

A joint statement was also supposed to be issued on Saturday night by the student and professor. The statement issued by Dr Rao said that such claims were “not correct”. Sources, however, told Deccan Herald that the professor told members at the meeting on Sunday that his remarks were unintentional.
