Former Union minister K H Muniyappa on Thursday said people holding responsible positions in the government should not allow their family members to misuse power.

“People who are in power should keep the family members away. Otherwise, it will affect the party. Yeddyurappa had suffered a setback in his career due to issues involving his children,” he told reporters on seeking his reaction to the controversy pertaining to a company owned by Siddaramaiah’s son Yathindra bagging a contract to set up a superspecialty laboratory in Bengaluru.

Muniyappa, however, quickly added that he was yet to gather information on the controversy involving Yathindra. “I was told that the contract was given after following a transparent bidding process and that there was no violation of any rules,” he said on the sidelines of Ambedkar Jayanti organised at the state Congress office.

Dalit CM

Senior Congress leader M V Rajasekharan said the party should given an opportunity to a dalit leader to become the chief minister if it had any plans to change the leadership in the state.
“I want Siddaramaiah to complete the full term. If the party is planning a leadership change, then a dalit should be made the chief minister,” he said.
