Protests rock Bengaluru for second consecutive day

Thousands of garment workers came out to the streets for second consecutive day in different parts of the city to protest against the amendment to the Employees Provident Funds and Miscellaneous Provisions Act, 1952.

Traffic movement at Electronic City, Yashavanthapura, Peenya, Naganathapura, Mysore road,Tumkur road, Magadi road and surrounding areas was severely affected. Many ambulances were also stuck in the jam.

Two KSRTC and a BMTC buses have been reportedly torched near Jalahalli cross. Garment factories have shut down as all labour unions joined the strike on Tuesday.  Situation has been tense on city outskirts like Anekal and Nelamangala.

IT sector is hit since hundreds of techies could not make it to offices on time due to the slow moving traffic across the city.

Hundreds of protesters gathered at Kudlu gate and expressed anguish over government's PF policy. They also lashed out at the brutal police lathi charge on the women garment workers.

Additional police forces have been brought in to handle the situation.
