The temperature is soaring by the day and everyone is trying to beat the heat in style. Be it floral scarves or trendy large hats, anything that can keep the harsh sun rays off is in vogue now.

Be it professionals or young college students, the easiest way to enhance one’s look is to add hats and scarves to it. Navchetan Rai, a professional model, says that he loves wearing hats. “I’m not a cowboy hat fan, though they often come back in fashion every now and then. I love the Fedora hats and other hybrid hats. They can be carried off with any look, be it to a party or an evening fine dining experience.”

He adds that more than beating the heat, the hats also add a snazzy touch to one’s entire look. “Other popular hats during the season are the flat cap and the painter’s cap,” he says.

Fashion is about convenience and also using what one already has in one’s wardrobe, to make a statement. Apoorva Sharma, a BSc Fad student of Army Institute of Fashion and Design, says that scarves don’t have to be ones in large floral prints to grab attention.

“Sometimes a chic simple white scarf that one already owns can be a classy addition to an outfit. Scarves in bright summery colours like yellows and blues in georgette, organza, chiffon and other light and cool materials, will make one stand out in a crowd. Abstract patterns and multicoloured scarves are very popular now,” she details.

Fashion expert Prasad Bidapa says that not many men are open to wearing hats, despite the variety available.

“There are some who wear the straw hats available at ‘Zara’ or other brands. When I am outdoors, I wear the hat with a scarf too, to protect myself. The ‘gamucha’ is a brilliant addition to one’s wardrobe as it can be used to keep one cool as well as serve as an accessory,” he says.

Jewellery designer Pallavi Foley says that scarves and hats are the best additions to one’s look for the season. “The scarves add a hippie touch to one’s attire. They can be knotted in different ways to make one stand out,” she says. Pallavi adds that big hats are selling like hotcakes now.

“The hats which are bigger in size — the large brimmed hats — are totally in style now. Also, straw hats teamed with a T-shirt and a pair of jeans give a casual classy look. These are functional stylish add-ons,” she adds. The finish of the hat adds to the style quotient. “Unfinished straw hats make their own style statement,” says Pallavi.

From printed hats to subtle coloured ones and hats with bows, all are in demand now. Swamy Gowda, a vendor on M G Road, who sells floral and bright summery hats and caps, says that the cotton ones are always in demand.

“We have caps and hats in a range of colours. From nylon ones to denim ones, they are a popular item during summer. Since the heat is rising by the minute, the caps which have a bigger rim are most popular now,” he says.
