Two people were killed in separate road accidents in Shivajinagar and Chikkajala traffic police limits.

In the first incident, a 38-year-old woman was killed after a tempo rammed an autorickshaw in which she was travelling. The incident took place near Queen’s Road in the early hours of Thursday.

The police identified her as Lakshmi, a native of Tamil Nadu. She had come to the city to attend a relative’s funeral in Halasuru. They arrived by train and alighted at the Cantonment railway station around 3 am.

While they were going towards Halasuru in an autorickshaw on Queen’s Road, a speeding tempo coming from Balekundri Circle rammed the autorickshaw. Due to the impact of the collision, the autorickshaw was thrown up in the air and came crashing down. Lakshmi was found lying in a pool of blood. She was shifted to a hospital where she succumbed to injuries. Her brothers and sister suffered injuries. Police said the tempo was coming on the wrong side. The autorickshaw driver jumped out as he noticed the tempo coming towards them at high speed. The tempo driver fled with his vehicle. CCTV footage is being obtained and efforts are on to trace the tempo, the police said.

Second accident
In another incident, a 23-year-old labourer died after the vehicle in which he was travelling rammed an electric pole and fell into a ditch near Narayanapura level crossing under Chikkajala traffic police limits on Wednesday night.

Police said the deceased has been identified as Gajendra, a resident of Yelahanka who was working as a labourer at Manjunatha Tent House in Dwarakanagar, Bagalur Cross. Manjunath, Gajendra’s employer who was driving the vehicle, Nagendra and Prakash, both labourers, were injured but are out of danger.

Around 9.30 pm, they were coming back to Bagalur Cross after loading the tempo with pandals, vessels and chairs from Jala hobli after a temple festival. As they reached Narayanapura level crossing, Manjunatha lost control over the vehicle and rammed an electric pole and the vehicle fell into a ditch. Gajendra, who was sitting in the carrier, died after huge vessels fell on him. Police moved Gajendra to a private hospital where he was declared brought dead. Manjunath lost control over the vehicle while trying to overtake.
