Ensure there is no shortage of water, minister tells officials

Minister for Urban Development Vinay Kumar Sorake said that the officials should initiate measures to supply drinking water.

Chairing a review meeting here on Thursday, he said the officials should ensure that there is no shortage of drinking water. Officials will be held responsible if there was any lapses.

Funds have already been sanctioned to ULBs. He urged the officials to utilise the funds available effectively. The deputy commissioner has been given the responsibility to recruit the civic workers in case of necessity. The ULBs should collect property tax and water tax and should mobilise resources from various sources, he said.

75% fund

The minister said that the government will give 75 per cent of the total estimated cost for the construction of private bus shelter in Madikeri. The City Municipal Council (CMC) president, vice president, MLA and district in-charge minister will take decision on the spot for the construction of bus shelter. The Urban Development department will not interfere in this regard, he said.

He said that the work on construction of market is delayed and the work should be accelerated. Solid waste management unit should be constructed for the effective disposal of garbage.

Deputy Commissioner Meer Anees Ahmmed said that with the increase in inflow of tourists to the district, there is a lack of parking space for vehicles. The ministry should grant permission for the construction of multi-storied car parking lot.

Urban Development Authority president Soorayya Abrar said that UDA will chalk out a programme for the development of Roshanara Kere. Land has been identified for laying new layouts.

CMC Commissioner B B Pushpavathi said that the budget for 2016-17 will give priority to the development of water tanks, grounds and crematorium. CMC President Shreemathi Bangera also spoke on the occasion.

Earlier, the Minister inspected the ongoing work on widening of Mahadevapete road.
