Last Updated 23 February 2010, 10:07 IST

At present there are only 220 outlets in the City. Horticulture Minister Umesh Katti, on Monday, said Bangalore City needs at least 1,000 tonnes of vegetables a day. As of now HOPCOMS outlets have capacity to take about 300 tonnes a day. If 400 more outlets are set up, HOPCOMS can provide 1,000 tonnes of vegetables to Bangaloreans, Katti added.

The issue has also been discussed with the Chief Minister, he added. Katti said that he had asked his officers to file a detail report on sudden fall of tomato prices. “As of now there is no need to announce support price for tomato”, he said.
