Sources from the Sangha informed that the delegation spoke at length about the problems faced by the traditional areca growers in Malnad due to the disease and said that since there is no alternate source of income for them, many are opting to join the naxal bands.
They demanded announcement of special packages, waiver of loan and distribution of fresh loans to the farmers. As many as 50 farmer leaders were part of the delegation.
