Suspect held and let off on bail in BMW accident case

A top executive in a well-known firm, who drove his BMW into an auto-rickshaw and injured four people in eastern Bengaluru on Saturday night, was arrested on Tuesday, but released on bail later.

The jurisdictional Indiranagar Traffic police arrested Samrat Chadha at his home in Vignanagar and interrogated him for more than four hours about how the crash happened.

He secured bail, but has been summoned for further questioning, a senior police officer said and added that a report was being prepared on the accident.

Chadha was drunk when he was driving the BMW at GM Palya near HAL. Soon after the accident, he was taken to the police station in a Hoysala patrol car. A constable guarded the BMW when an angry crowd tried to torch it. There was a large crowd at the place as a religious procession was being taken out, the officer said.

Auto driver Sudhakar, and Manikanta, Manjunath, Govardhan, who were travelling in the three-wheeler, suffered injuries in the accident. They were treated at a private hospital and are out of danger.
