Anjaneya defends statement on pvt schools

Last Updated 20 May 2016, 19:17 IST

Social Welfare Minister H Anjaneya on Friday defended his controversial statement on private school management and said he will shortly give an appropriate reply to KPCC president G Parameshwara on the issue.

The minister said he spoke harshly about institutions which had been forcing poor to pay huge sums of money for admission. “Aggrieved parents shared their plight with me recently. They told me that they were forced to sell their jewellery to get admissions in private schools (for their children). I will explain all these issues in my reply to the president (KPCC president),” he told reporters.

Anjaneya had recently stated that private school managements were worse than those running brothels. The KPCC president had taken a strong exception to his statement and directed him to restrain himself while speaking in public.

Anjaneya, however, sought to put an end to the issue by saying it was a closed chapter and that there was no need to drag it any more.
