Sanjay continues his fine run

Kalp, Siddharth, Kushal power their way to new records on second day

Sanjay C J of Dolphin Aquatics continued his fine run, winning the 1500M freestyle for Group II boys in a record time on the second day of the State Junior and Sub-junior swimming championships on Thursday.

Sanjay, who had won the 800M freestyle in Group II on the opening day, clocked 16:50.06, smashing the meet record of 17:01.53, set by Aaron D’Souza in 2006. It was also better than the national mark of 16:51.00, set by Aryan Makhija in 2014. 

Young Kalp S Bohra of Pooja Aquatic Centre also splashed his way into record books, winning the gold in the 100M breast stroke for Group III boys.

Kalp clocked 1:18.43 to erase the mark of 1:18.45 set by Rohan D’Souza in 1998. He finished ahead of Dolphin’s Pragun Dev (1:20.77) and Harsha R (1:23.13), also of Dolphin.

Siddarth Joshi of Global Swim Centre claimed the 50M backstroke for Group II boys with a meet record, clocking 30.19 seconds while P Kushal of Dolphin timed 2:21.13, a new record, to win the 200M individual medley for Group II boys.

In the girls section, Shraddha Sudhir of Basavanagudi Aquatic Centre won a double, triumphing in the 50M freestyle and 200M individual medley while Sunaina Manjunath and Khushi Dinesh, also of BAC, picked up double crowns in Group II.
