Heavy rain lashes parts of Karnataka

Pre-monsoon showers in various districts of the state , specially North Karnataka, brought respite from the harsh summer.

Parts of Belagavi city received light pre-monsoon showers on Thursday evening.
Cloudy atmosphere prevailed since afternoon in the city. The city received light showers for about 30 minutes during the early evening hours.

Raichur
Various parts of Raichur district received heavy rain on Wednesday night and Thursday morning. The rains brought cheer to the farmers who were seen preparing their land for the monsoon. Sindhanur taluk received heavy rain. Rain lashed parts of Maski for four hours on Thursday morning, while schools were inundated in Kavitala and Mudgal. Heavy rain was also reported from Devadurga and Manvi taluks.

The rain gave respite to residents of Siravara from the heat.

Kalaburagi
Rains lashed Kalaburagi city for over an hour on Thursday indicating the end of the summer. Accompanied by wind and thunder, the first pre-monsoon rains brought long-awaited cheer to the people of the city reeling under oppressive heat.
Several low lying areas were inundated and traffic was affected for some time due to gusty winds and rain.

The power supply was disrupted in several areas for a couple of hours. The pre-monsoon showers are stated to be very useful to the farming community to prepare their lands for the kharif operations.

Hosapete (Ballari district)
Rain, accompanied by thunderstorm, lashed different parts of Hosapete taluk on Thursday. The rain started around 7.30 am and lashed till 11 am in Hosapete town.

Nanjangud/HD Kote
Heavy rain, accompanied by thunder and lightning, claimed a life at Maraluru village in Nanjangud taluk, Mysuru district, on Thursday. The deceased is Siddaraju (34), who was grazing cattle when the lightning struck. Siddaraju and two bullocks died on the spot.

The rain left hundreds of trees uprooted at D B Kuppe forest range, under Bandipur National Park, in H D Kote taluk. While Hassan city and surrounding region experienced moderate rains, Srirangapatna received heavy rains on Wednesday night. However, no rain damages were reported.
