Negative criticism hurts me: Chitrangada Singh

But Chitrangada Singh is not happy with comparisons as she doesn't like being praised in one film and then criticised in another.
"Its a huge compliment comparing me to Smita Patil, but I don't really want to be compared to her. If you are good in one film people say you are like her, but the next film might not be that good and then they say you are not. That hurts me," Chitrangada told PTI.

"I am very aware of what is her stature in Bollywood and it is too far for me to reach. I cannot be as good as her," she added.
The 27-year-old actress, who made her acting debut with Sudhir Mishra's 'Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi' in 2003, has no craving for big budget films and is worried about her role more than anything else.

"It doesn't matter whether the film is under a big banner or it has big stars in it. To me, my character matters the most, whether it is a commercial film or a non-commercial one," Chitrangada said.

The actress, who is seen endorsing numerous brands these days, was in the capital to launch fashion and lifestyle brand Tommy Hilfiger's customer loyalty programme.

Chitrangada's debut film earned her the tag of a 'serious' actress, an image which she finds difficult to come out of.

"Since 'Hazaaron..' was been my first film, it has got etched in people's minds. I have been Geeta Rao for so many people and it is very difficult for me to break that," she said.
But now Chitrangada is looking forward to more glamorous roles in typical Bollywood style with song and dance in it.

"If the role is meaty and as well as glamorous, then there is nothing like it! I will be having three releases this year and you will see me singing and dancing. There is one film in which I am a singer and I play the guitar too," said Chitrangada.
The actress also insisted that she was always more into dancing and acting happened by chance.

"I have danced all my life and have trained in Kathak. I have never really acted when I was young. Acting happened by chance. I had starred in a music video and got my movie break through that," said Chitrangada.

When asked what she would have become if not an actress, Chitrangada said, "A fashion designer, probably. I would have definitely done something involving creativity and art."
The actress is currently working in Sudhir Mishra's next, which is tentatively titled 'Dil Dar-ba-dar'.

"The first schedule has already been shot and we will be back with the second. 'Dil Dar-ba-dar' is the working title, we do not have a final name yet," she said.
