Common code not linked to religion: Law panel chief

Last Updated 07 July 2016, 20:08 IST

Law Commission Chairman Justice B S Chauhan on Thursday said the common code has never been linked to any religion in many cases.

However, he stressed the need for sorting out various issues in the examination of the reference made by the government on the implementation of a uniform civil code. “It (uniform code) had never been linked to religion in many cases,” he said.

Backing up his comment, he said the Indian Peal Code, the Code of Civil Procedure, the Evidence Act, Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act and the UP Abolition of Zamindari Act are some of the examples.
