Post-revaluation, an increase of 34 marks has been reported in the scores of an SSLC student who had appeared for the examinations this year.

According to Yashoda Bopanna, Director, Karnataka Secondary Education Examination Board, there was a huge difference in the marks obtained after the revaluation of the answerscript of Social Science subject.

Before revaluation, Srikanth C, a student of Parivartana School near Srirangapattana of Mandya district, had scored 54 marks in the Social Science paper. Srikanth was sure of having fared well in the exams. He applied for revaluation and post-revaluation, his final score stood at 88.

Speaking to Deccan Herald, his mother Shobha said, “We got a xerox copy of the answerscript and noticed that he had attempted all the questions and yet no marks were given. We verified from his school teachers who were also sure that he had fared well and deserved good marks. Srikanth has also scored 20 on 20 in the internal assessment conducted by the school. After revaluation of his answerscript, he has scored an additional 34 marks, which is a huge difference,” she added.

Srikanth has scored well in other subjects and has passed with distinction. A notice has been served on the evaluator who evaluated the answerscript and an inquiry has been ordered into the matter.

Dhanyashree, another student from Nelamangala, had scored 60 marks in the Hindi paper. Dejected with her marks, she attempted suicide. After revaluation, her marks went up to 100. Had her mother not saved her at the nick of the moment, she would not have lived to see her marks.

A total of 574 students have applied for retotalling this year. As many as 42,510 students have applied for revaluation this year, as against 45,000 applications in 2015. Only 10 more applications for revaluation are pending before the department.
