Safety checks for govt school buildings

All government primary and high schools besides pre-university colleges will be checked for their structural strength during the next one month.

In a statement, Primary and Secondary Education Minister Tanveer Sait said inspections will be carried out by the jurisdictional engineering wing of the zilla panchayat, revenue department and engineers of the public works department.

The direction comes after two students died when the classroom of a government higher primary school collapsed due to heavy rain in Yamakanamaradi in Hukkeri taluk in Belagavi district earlier this week. Inspection reports have to be submitted to the education department by August 15, Sait stated.
